This cosy little establishment has all the feel of a country kitchen run by a kindly old grandmother with an incredible culinary ability and is one of Bordeaux’s most famous best-kept secrets. The gifted head chef La Tupina, Jean-Pierre Xiradakis’s specialty is duck, so it is often common to find duck appearing in salads and appetizers. However that does not mean that duck is the only good thing on the menu, the shoulder of lamb, the lamprey eel, and the steaks all come highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this place last june (2005), and my "seven hour lamb", as it appears in the menu was so delicious, the duck in shallot sauce was pretty good too, but I ate too much and needed a bit of a rest afterwards...which recommends the place I think. My sister went there later and liked it less, and criticised the hard toasts, and largish portions.
I look forward to my next visit for sure.

As a Pan Am pilot I had the occasion to sample some of the best tables ot the world, and in my opinion La Tupina is one of the best in Europe, and number one in Aquitaine where I settled in 1984.My favorite table is right in front of the fireplace ,where one can watch the plump chickens roasting on the old style spit, and these succulent potatoes fried in goose fat..
My advice, come hungry,
